If you’re thinking about starting therapy, it’s completely natural to have questions. Here you’ll find answers to the most common questions I receive about my services, approach, and what to expect—whether you’re seeking EMDR therapy, trauma counselling, or general emotional support.
What issues do you work with?
I specialise in working with adults experiencing:
• Trauma (including PTSD and complex trauma)
• Childhood abuse or neglect
• Low self-worth or self-esteem
• Anxiety and emotional overwhelm
• Relationship or attachment difficulties
If you’re not sure whether therapy is right for your situation, feel free to get in touch for a free 10-minute consultation.
What type of therapy do you offer?
I offer integrative therapy, which means I draw from a variety of approaches including evidence based modalities of CBT and EMDR to suit your individual needs. My work is experienced, relational and rooted in compassion. I specialise in helping adults who are struggling with trauma, abuse, anxiety, and low self-worth. There is a strong focus on the therapeutic relationship, which is at the heart of the healing process
Therapy can be short-term and focused or open-ended, depending on what you need. I offer sessions both in person in Carluke and online across the UK.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a trauma-focused therapy that helps you safely process distressing memories and emotional blocks. It doesn’t require you to talk in detail about the past, and many people find it highly effective for symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and low self-worth. I’m fully trained in EMDR and integrate it where appropriate into therapy sessions.
How do I make an appointment?
Contact me via phone, text, email or the contact form. We will arrange a mutually agreeable time for a free telephone consultation.
What if I’m nervous about starting Therapy?
That’s completely natural. Many people feel uncertain or anxious about starting therapy. You don’t need to have everything figured out—just a willingness to explore what’s going on and take the first step. I offer a supportive, non-judgmental space where we work at your pace.
Is Therapy Confidential?
Yes. Everything we discuss in therapy is confidential, and I adhere to strict ethical guidelines as an NCPS-accredited professional therapist. The only exceptions involve rare safeguarding circumstances, which I will explain clearly at the start of therapy.

What happens at my appointment?
Your first session is a chance for us to discuss what’s brought you to therapy and what goals you have. It gives you the chance to experience my working style and decide if you feel I am the right fit for you.
How long do sessions last?
Sessions generally last 50 – 60 minutes and at the beginning are scheduled weekly or fortnightly. As you progress on your therapy journey sessions may become monthly or progress to an ad-hoc basis. Some reprocessing sessions of EMDR may be as long as 90 minutes but this will be discussed and agreed at scheduling. Bupa sessions last 50 minutes.
How do I pay?
Sessions can be paid via bank transfer or cash. Details will be provided with your session confirmation.
Are you Qualified?
Yes. I am a fully trained, professionally insured, and accredited integrative therapist. I’m an accredited professional member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), which means I meet nationally recognised standards of training, ethics, and ongoing professional development.
Unfortunately, therapy is not a protected title in the UK, and it’s important to know that not everyone advertising therapy services is properly trained or accountable to a professional body. Unlike coaching or wellness services, I follow a strict code of ethics, engage in regular supervision, and maintain up-to-date insurance to ensure your safety and quality of care.
You deserve to work with someone who is qualified, regulated, and committed to safe, effective practice. If you’re unsure what to look for in a therapist, I’m happy to guide you.
When are sessions available?
I generally offer sessions during the day, within standard school hours and during term time. Appointments are available Tuesday to Friday, from morning through mid-afternoon. At present, I do not offer sessions on Mondays or evenings. If you have specific scheduling needs, please get in touch and I’ll be happy to discuss options.
